CAT URINE ODOR REMOVAL
For anyone that has problems in their house with the odor from cat urine, particularly on carpeting, this is the recipe for you! Believe me, I've tried almost every product out on the market today and honestly haven't had one work for me yet. This is a very simple recipe to make, the ingredients are easy to find and it really eliminates the cat urine odor! To make a single batch, you will need 12 ounces of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/2 teaspoon of Ajax dishwashing liquid soap, 1 1/2 teaspoon Arm & Hammer baking soda and a empty plastic spray bottle to put solution in once it is mixed up. If you have a large area that needs odor removal, you may need to double or triple the recipe. Mix all three ingredients together using a plastic spoon (not metal). Once it is mixed pour into your empty spray bottle. Always discard unused portion, because the oxygen in the peroxide mixed with these other products can make it all bubble up and out of the container leaving a big mess. Now for the fun part. You have to find all the old stains and odors, otherwise your cat will continue to go back to the same spot. Once you find the areas of urine, spray the spot with the solution evenly, making sure to saturate the carpet and the padding under the carpet (you may want to do a spot test on your carpet or furniture first, but it has never left a stain on anything I have used it on.) Once the whole urine area is saturated block it off to keep people or your pets from walking on it until it is completely dry. Do not blot up any of the formula because the stains need to be saturated thoroughly and left to air dry on its own. After it has dried completely, vacuum spot to remove any white powder left over from the baking soda. Scotch guarded carpet takes a while to absorb the liquid, but after it sits for a awhile it will absorb into the carpet and padding. You may have to pour a little extra solution on this type of carpet. This solution has worked on both fresh and old odors for me. The main ingredient in this recipe is peroxide, it works by bringing the urine to the top of the carpet and is removed by the oxygen molecules. Just a note, the smell of the urine may get worse when you saturate it with the solution before it gets better. The solution is literally pulling all the hidden odors to the top of the surface so that it can be dissolved for good. I just had to share this recipe because it really worked well for me!
